Youth Group is back on September 11 from 5:30-7pm! We'll be having Ice Cream Sundae's to kick off the new year right. Check out our series topics below and we'll be seeing you soon. Youth Group is for students that are in 6th-12th grade.

Summer Time

I've talked with a lot of people since the start of the summer and there seems to be a phenomenon about the rate at which time moves during the summer time. For the first few weeks it seems like most people--particularly students--feel like their summer is taking forever and that they're already bored with the freedom they had been wishing for during the past 9 months of the school year. And then the switch happens. No longer is it taking forever. In fact, they've glanced at a calendar or heard someone mention what day it actually is, and it turns out the summer is flying by.

Well, I hear ya. The summer is flying by. I can't believe how quickly the new school year is approaching, but it is exciting. I'm excited about Impact and the way God will be moving within the lives of the students who go. I'm excited for VBS and the experience that the student volunteers will be having. I'm excited for Youth Group to restart and the potential that I see there. Needless to say, I'm excited and I hope you are too.

Christmas Party

This Friday from 6-8pm is the Youth Christmas party at my house (422 S. Monroe St.). Bring a white elephant gift (something from around your house that you no longer want, and please, no bags of garbage) for a gift exchange and be prepared for pizza, games and hanging out.

Bullying: A Christian Perspective

This Sunday from 5-7:30 at the church we will be showing a movie and having a conversation about bullying. We'll have pizza and soda and other snacks, too. If you've watched any news recently, you know that bullying has become a hot issue in our culture. Maybe in your schools you have talked about bullying and have been told why you shouldn't do it. Just like everything we talk about, we're going to dig into how Christ calls us to respond.

Come join us from 5-7:30 this Sunday and as always, feel free to bring a friend!

Parents of Youth Meeting

On November 9 at 7pm we will be having out first "Parents of Youth" meeting. I tried to come up with something clever like pumy (parents understanding methodist youth) but I couldn't come up with anything I liked. I encourage you to attend this meeting so that you have the chance to talk about the vision, purpose and plans for everything we do. We'll talk about the upcoming calendar, the prices of what we'll do and you'll have the opportunity to ask questions about our events, leaders and curriculum.

I would love for you to be able to attend this meeting and I hope you will put it on your calendar now so when the date comes, you'll have it open! This is a really great opportunity for you to find out how you can get involved as a parent in what fumy is doing.

This past Sunday, the youth volunteered with some adults from the church to put together Health Kits for those who are suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. We had a great turn out which allowed us to quickly sort and pack up everything we could. Thanks to everyone who came out to be a part of this! Your hard work is going to help those who are in need.

In the future, Faith Church Youth will be getting more involved in serving opportunities locally and globally. On March 7 we are selling refreshments during a benefit concert that will be supporting the Faith Centre. Over the summer we are going on a mission trip to help people who are in need.

As youth, it is important to realize that you are an important part in the life of the church. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." By sacrificing your time for other people you are setting an example for others in the church who may not know that serving other people is an excellent way to serve God.

Keep a look out for ways to serve. We will be choosing things that we’ll do as a group in the future, but maybe there is something you see that you want to volunteer with. Give it a shot! Recruit your parents or your siblings to go with you. And you can always make up your own opportunities. Maybe on a snowy morning while you’re shoveling your driveway and sidewalk you can do your neighbor's, too.

Christmas

Christmas is coming and going quickly once again. Thanks to all who helped out with the live nativity this past Sunday at Marion-Walker. By being there the youth were a reminder of what Christmas is about to those who came to worship. Even though they probably would have preferred to be inside in the warm sipping hot cocoa and scarfing down cookies they braved the cold.
After Christmas in Zion, the youth headed over to Dan and Trisha Christopher's for the annual youth Christmas Party. We had a LOT of food, games and we had a white elephant gift exchange.
As we approach Christmas, I can't help but be excited about the year to come. We have a lot of exciting things planned for this year. I am excited for the adventure!

And we're back!

We made it back alive from Great Escape. In fact, it was better than we could have imagined because we left with 11 people and came back with 12! We had an awesome time in Camp Hill with a lot of memories, goofy times and late night games that we will not soon forget. I trust that God will tend to the seeds that have been planted in the hearts of those that came with us.
The theme for the weekend was "Living Above the World." Over the course of the weekend, we talked a lot about what it means to live above the world and to not get caught wearing "Christian camoflage." The youth were challenged to not be one of those people who put on their "Church" gear Sunday morning but then live like the rest of the world every other day. As Christians, we are called to live to a different standard than that of our neighbors and peers. We are called to live up to God's standard.
The theme verse this year was Romans 12:2: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." As you attempt to overcome the temptation to live for the world, may you seek God's guidance and strength that will transform you from the inside until you are overflowing with the love of God in all the things that you do.

Great Escape!

Alright. This is it. This is the moment we have all been waiting for. This Friday is the kick off of the Great Escape down in Camp Hill. We're meeting at 3:45 at the church for loading and check in and we will depart at 4, getting us to our lodging around 6:00. This year we have nine youth and three adults going and it should be a good time.
This is my first over night trip here at Faith Church and I am looking forward to it. It has been an interestingly non-stressful planning time for this event, mostly because it is fully run by the Central PA Conference of the Methodist Church.
If you feel led, we would love your prayers for safety and for God to prepare our hearts for what He has to say through the speakers.
